The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at the residence of Gyanesh Chowdhury, a Kolkata-based businessman, situated on Alipore-Belvedere Road in south Kolkata. The raids were executed on Wednesday morning in relation to a money laundering and fund misappropriation case involving substantial amounts of money.
The operation, aimed at uncovering financial irregularities, began at approximately 7:15 AM, and all entry and exit points to the businessman's residence were sealed during the course of the raids. Investigators are meticulously examining the premises.
The ED's actions are part of a wider investigation linked to a prominent figure in the cash-for-school job case. Over the past days, the agency has carried out similar raids at the residences of the main accused, as well as at the locations associated with the accused's family members and business operations.
This comes in the wake of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's strong criticisms against the ED's recent activities. On Tuesday, she voiced concerns over the agency's approach and raised questions about the possibility of evidence planting during these raids. The ED's intensified actions have stirred significant debate and political reactions within the state.
